GP 24 - Council Designation Policy

1.     Source of Authority

Council designates a staff member to carry out the duties of sections 65 and 86 of the Health Professions Act (the Act) in accordance with Bylaw article 6.5. 

2.    Establishment

The duties of the staff member designated in accordance with Bylaw article 6.5 are established in sections 65 and 86 of the Act.

3.    Duties and Responsibilities

3.1 The designated staff member will fulfill the duties under sections 65 and 86 on a permanent basis.

3.2 Where the designated staff member is unable to perform the duties or is absent but expected to return, the person to whom the designated staff member organizationally reports will perform the duties until the designated staff member returns. 

3.3 Where the designated staff member is unable to perform the duties for a period of time longer than eight weeks, or is absent and not expected to return:

a.      The CEO & Registrar will notify Council in writing of the designated staff member’s absence and recommend a replacement staff member to perform the duties, and

b.   Council will designate a replacement staff member to perform the duties under sections 65 and 86 of the Act at a meeting called by the Council Chair, or through an e-vote initiated by the Council Chair.
