Renewal Readiness: Name on the Register

April 20, 2026

Registrants of the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) are required to practise using their legal names as they appear on the register. This ensures employers and the public can verify a registrant’s permit status and supports accountability within the profession.

Anyone can verify a registrant’s permit status by searching their first and/or last name using the Verify a Nurse tool.

What Information on Registrants is Publicly Available?

  • Publicly available information includes:
  • The full legal name of the registrant
  • The effective date of their permit
  • Any conditions or authorizations attached to their permit
  • Any information related to disciplinary matters

What Should I Do if I Think a Nurse is Practising Without a Permit?

If you believe an individual is practising without the appropriate permit, or if you have concerns about their conduct, you can submit a complaint to the CRNA.

The CRNA works closely with employers and registrants to ensure that only licensed individuals practise under protected titles.
