The College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) is the regulatory college responsible for protecting the public interest by supporting safe, competent and ethical nursing care across Alberta. Operating under the Health Professions Act, the CRNA maintains the register of regulated members, establishes and enforces professional standards and provides regulatory guidance to registrants. Reporting to Council, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) & Registrar will provide the strategic, regulatory, operational and cultural leadership required to advance the CRNA’s public protection mandate. With a strong emphasis on systems-level thinking and future-focused leadership, the CEO & Registrar will help position the CRNA to respond proactively to emerging trends in health care, regulation, workforce planning, technology and data-driven decision making.

Who the CRNA is Looking For

The ideal candidate is an accomplished executive with progressive senior leadership experience in professional regulation, health care, the public sector or another comparably complex environment. They will bring both strategic vision and practical credibility, ideally having first-hand experience delivering care or leading within complex health-care environments and understanding the realities faced daily by regulated professionals.

Eligible for nursing licensure in Alberta, this next leader will bring sophisticated knowledge of governance, administrative law, public-interest decision making and the province’s health system, complemented by the strategic perspective to recognize connections across legislative, regulatory, workforce and organizational issues. Technology and data savvy, the ideal candidate will be comfortable leveraging analytics, evidence and emerging innovations to enhance regulatory effectiveness and organizational performance.

A principled and politically astute relationship builder, this leader will ensure best practices inside of the organization and provide Council with candid and balanced advice, exercise sound risk-based judgment and communicate sensitive matters with clarity and credibility. They will be highly effective in managing complex stakeholder relationships provincially and nationally, synthesizing diverse perspectives into clear strategic direction. They will also be a courageous and inclusive people leader who develops organizational capacity, creates shared accountability and enables employees to challenge assumptions and pursue continual improvement.
