MIFEGYMISO PRESCRIBED BY NPs NOW COVERED UNDER WOMEN’S CHOICE PROGRAM

In July 2017, Alberta Health introduced the Women’s Choice Program, which provided universal coverage for Mifegymiso, a drug that provides a non-surgical option for early abortion. Initially, the cost of the drug was covered only for prescriptions written by physicians.

Alberta Health has revised the prescriber restriction allowing prescriptions written by NPs to be covered under the program. This gives Alberta women whose primary care provider is a NP, equivalent choices for their reproductive health.

ANNUAL CCP REVIEW REMAINS ON HOLD

This year's renewal will not include a review of randomly selected members' continuing competence learning plans. Instead, we will be focusing resources on implementing changes related to the Continued Competence Program (CCP) and on continued engagement with members.

Does this change how I do my CCP reporting?
No, you will need to complete the practice reflection and continuing professional development requirements as usual.

What if I have been required to complete a directed review?
You will still need to complete a directed review if you have been notified to do so. Only the annual random review has been placed on hold.

Is this a permanent change?
No, the hold on the random review only applies to the upcoming renewal. If you have any questions, please contact ccompetence@nurses.ab.ca.
