Through bylaw, we have delegated to the Nursing Education Program Approval Board (NEPAB) the authority to approve Alberta's nursing education programs that:
The board is comprised of nine volunteer members, appointed by CARNA Provincial Council, who carry out NEPAB's duties as an impartial decision-making body. Board members represent:
NEPAB reviews evidence provided by nursing education programs to determine if their standards and criteria for initial entry to practice as a registered nurse (PDF) or nurse practitioner (PDF) are met.
CARNA's entry-to-practice competencies for registered nurses (PDF) and nurse practitioners (PDF) are foundational to NEPAB's nursing education standards and criteria.
Educational institutions applying for program approval must provide evidence these competencies integrate fully into the planning, implementation, and evaluation of their nursing education program.
