Individual & Group Consultation
Individual Consultations
The College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) provides confidential consultations to registered nurses (RNs) and others who seek assistance about issues that directly or indirectly affect the delivery of safe, competent, ethical nursing care. CARNA nursing consultants respond to telephone calls, e-mails, faxes, and in-person requests from RNs and others.
Group Consultations
Nursing consultants are also available on request to work with groups of RNs to help them understand and address issues such as staff mix, assignment of care, best practice for medication administration or changes to service delivery models that affect nursing practice.
Consultation Process
During the course of the consultations, nursing consultants may assist the individual, group or facility to:
- identify their problems or questions
- consider a range of viable options
- use evidence to support practice
- select actions to resolve their questions or concerns
A periodic review of all practice consultations helps CARNA identify emerging trends and issues for nursing and health care. All reviews are in aggregate form to ensure confidentiality and no identifying information is reported.
