Writing Centers
There are various writing centers used throughout Alberta depending upon the number of candidates applying to a writing, availability of invigilation staff and costs for the center. If your selection for writing center is unavailable, CARNA will advise of the location nearest to you.
Application Form and Fee
Examination applications are available from the CARNA office.
Alberta Graduates obtain applications through their schools of nursing.
Application form and fee must be mailed to CARNA. Do not fax form.
The form and fee must be received by the specified deadline date for the examination session of your choice. Applications received after the deadline date will not be accepted for that writing session.
Fees are payable to CARNA.
Change of Name and/or Address
If you change your address or any other personal information after you submit your application form, please immediately notify CARNA office by phone (780) 451-0043 (Edmonton area) or 1-800-252-9392 (toll free).
Cancellation or Withdrawal from Examination
CARNA must be notified in writing of your intent to cancel or withdraw. If you do not notify CARNA of your withdrawal and do not write the exam on the day you are scheduled to write, you could forfeit the entire examination fee.
If you notify CARNA in writing of your intent to cancel or withdraw your request to write the CRNE, the following cancellation fees apply:

Examination Results
Approximately six to eight weeks after the examination, the results will be mailed to the address indicated on the examination application form unless otherwise notified of a change. The candidate will receive a pass/fail report only. Results will not be released electronically or over the telephone. Applicants applying for registration in Alberta are permitted three opportunities to achieve a passing score on the CRNE.
IMPORTANT
There will be No Admittance to the examination without the candidate providing at least one piece of photo identification bearing your signature and complete legal name. The identification must have a currentphotograph such as a driver's license.
If the candidate writes any portion of the examination, it will be counted as one of the three allowed attempts. The response sheet will be reviewed and a pass/fail reported. Appeals will be considered on an individual basis.
Candidates with special accommodation requirements should contact the CARNA Examinations Coordinator to obtain the necessary application forms.
We require 2-3 months prior to the exam writing to validate the need for special accommodation. CARNA will ask that you provide supporting documentation which includes a diagnosis in the case of a mental health or physical condition and a psycho-educational assessment in the case of a learning disability.
