Reporting Continuing Competence Program (CCP) Activities
CCP requirements are directly linked with active practice. If you hold an active practice permit for any portion of the CARNA practice year (October 1 – September 30) you must report your continuing competence activities. CCP activities are reported annually on the CARNA Application for a Practice Permit and/or Membership form.
RNs, NPs and CGNs report on implementation of their learning plan(s), achievements of their learning goal(s), any influence the learning had on their nursing practice and any changes to their priority indicators throughout the practice year. RNs and CGNs must report implementation of a least one learning plan. NPs must report on implementation of at least two learning plans each year. One of the learning plans must be based on a nurse practitioner competency indicator.
In addition, RNs and CGNs are required to report at least one nursing practice standard indicator for professional development for the upcoming practice year. NPs are required to report a minimum of two priority indicators for professional development every year. One of these indicators must be from the NP Competencies.
Temporary Practice Permit Holders
A CARNA member holding a temporary practice permit is not required to report Continuing Competence activities until she/he applies for RN status. When you apply for a RN practice permit, you must identify learning priorities and report the NPS indicator(s) that you will focus on for the coming year or for the remainder of the current year.
RN to NP
When a RN applies for inclusion on the NP register, she/he must report at least one priority NP Competency indicator for their professional development for the coming year or for the remainder of the current year.
RN, NP or CGN to Associate or Retired Membership
If you currently hold an active practice permit and you intend to apply for an Associate or Retired membership (non-practicing categories), you will be required to report on implementation of your learning plan(s) during the current practice year.
Non-Practicing to RN, NP or CGN
If you are planning to move from a non-practicing to a practicing membership, you must identify your learning priorities and report the NPS indicator(s) and/or the NP competency indicator(s) you are going to focus on for the coming year.
Reporting your CCP activities is a legal requirement for a practice permit. If you do not report, you will be issued a practice permit conditional to meeting CCP requirements within 60 days. If the requirements are not met within this timeframe your practice permit will be automatically suspended and your employer(s) will be notified.
